Bridging the gap between the knowledge workers and management

It’s evident that there exists a gap between the knowledge workers and the management in most of the organizations. The primary reason of this alienation is the fact that knowledge workers are given instruction how to do their jobs. Most of the knowledge worker that are hired are good achievers with good experience and are highly motivated.

Instead of being highly satisfied with their work, they feel dry from it. Since they are the user of the process they know best what can be done to improve it. So instead of ordering them, the management should discuss with them the solution with a given platform and let them come with a solution. This will not only solve the problem but will motivate the workers too. Which at the end means good quality of work and this chain can be passed on to the customers of the organization and satisfying them too.

Google in the headlines

Google is lately in the headlines. There is major shift in the strategy of Google as it opened up to shareholders. Google is not a primary search engine but also provide valued services such as customized homepage and Google talk etc, which no other Dotcoms companies provide that effectively as Google. Now major companies specially the software giant Microsoft is feeling very uncomfortable with the developments in Google.

Google is hiring entrepreneurs in Technology sector which is oblivious indication that Google is up to something.

My forecast is that Google will launch operating system in few years time, which will be quite easy to use, and most importantly, the data will be properly arranged and it will be quite easy to search for data on computers and networks. Or even so Google might come up with its own new protocol what will be quite faster and will be properly integrated to be used as main channel for wireless communication. GSM and other technologies have quite a few alternative technologies these days which provide broadband speed in wireless networks. It is not far that Google might also tap this opportunity.

Evolution of Business

Businesses are growing more competitive these days. The main reason for that is the businesses are competing not locally but globally, so much for global outsourcing. So question one can ask, what should be the strategy then! The answer is simple target those market segments where demand is high or try to come up with new technology that will provide cheap solution.
The examples of new and good technologies are digital cameras and Intel’s new wireless broadband solution (Wimax), which is a treat to existing wireless solutions like GSM and DSL etc. Quite often new technologies as such are framed as disruptive technologies as they will out date the existing technology.
One most important strategy is to stay ahead of rivals. So its now must for giants to have research and development departs and the solely job is to invent new technologies or new applications to currently available technology (adidas with its smart shoes) as well as they have to update to new technologies to stay in the race.
The examples of brands that came up with new ideas but did not improve with time are yahoo and hotmail. Yahoo was a leader in web portal and hotmail was inventive with its web mail service. Both of them had original ideas but that is not enough if there is no evolution. Surviving is hard without it. It is amazing that the idea is not new, Darwin was the founder of it with its theory of evolution. I don’t want to prove the theory correctness in nature but it is certainly true for the businesses community. Even before Darwin a German physics Professor Georg Christoph Lichtenberg said
"I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better."
Still many strategists ignore this fact. Even if the idea is not that innovative it should be implemented because it will help the company stay in the headlines.
Google took advantage when many others where out drinking lemonade. It started off with good search engine and slowly adding new services to the website. Google clearly is a market leader in dot com industry. It would not be long before google lunches its first Operationg system. Now MSN is copying those entire things that separate google from them but it’s too late for that
The next battle of competitive advantage will fought in technology sector, because it leads to all kind of adaptive changes.
